The project, which will be produced by RT Features and Ghost House Pictures, will tell the story of Victor Frankenstein during his youth.

In Ackroyd's novel, Frankenstein becomes influenced by outspoken English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, the husband of "Frankenstein" author Mary Shelley, and begins to experiment with corpses and the creation of life.

Auburn's Proof won the Tony Award and Drama Desk Award for Best Play, as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001. His new play, The Columnist, presented by Manhattan Theatre Club, will bow on Broadway in January 2012.
