The couple are being honored for their continuing commitment of The Public Theater and over ten years of service to the artistic community in New York. The gala also celebrates Anne Spitzer and the late Bernard Spitzer for their support of the Off-Broadway company.
"The Public’s annual gala, set so beautifully in the middle of Central Park, is the perfect place to honor those extraordinary individuals who have supported and championed The Public Theater and its enduring legacy," said executive director Patrick Willingham in an earlier press statement. "Oskar and Laurie Eustis and Bernard and Anne Spitzer are true visionaries in their dedication and commitment to the theater and firm believers in the impact that art can have on the community, the city and the world."
The Tempest is the first of the two productions to be presented as part of Shakespeare in the Park. The tale of young love and old enemies is now running through July 5, with an official press opening on June 16. Cymbeline will follow July 23-Aug. 23.
Tickets start at $650 and are available by visiting publictheater.org/gala or by calling (212) 539-8634.
