News   Public Theater Sets Dates for ShakeUp Event for NYC School Students
New York City school children will get the chance to speak the Bard's words as part of the Public Theater's sixth annual free Summer ShakeUp event at the Delacorte Theater and parks across the city.

The Public's Shakespeare Initiative director Barry Edelstein will lead the first event on July 15 at the Delacorte in Central Park. Additional events will take place July 16 at Crotona Park in the Bronx and July 23 at Queensbridge Park in Queens.

Summer ShakeUp gives school-aged children, grades 6th and up, the chance to take on Shakespeare's text and characters in a series of games, workshops and activities presented by actors from the Public's Shakespeare Lab.

The Public will also offer "A Midsummer Day's Camp" for New York City teens Aug. 1-13.

"Everyone at The Public is passionate about Shakespeare and the Summer ShakeUp is one of our favorite ways to share that passion," Edelstein said in a statement. "It’s just a fun, joyous day of games and revelry, all designed to spark the imaginations of our city’s school kids and turn them on to this playwright we so revere."

As part of the July 16 event, the Public will make a limited number of New York Yankee tickets available, and 47 participants of the July 23 event will receive tickets to see the New York Mets. The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park productions of All's Well That Ends Well and Measure for Measure run in repertory through July 30.
