As previously announced, Tony Award winner Alan Cumming will star as Dionsysus, the Greek god of wine, in the National Theatre of Scotland's The Bacchae, which is booked for this summer's Lincoln Center Festival, running July 2-13 at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater. According to a casting notice, a second production of the Euripides classic — presented by the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater — will be seen at the Public's outdoor Delacorte Theatre in Central Park. The brief run is scheduled for Sept. 16-28.

JoAnne Akalaitis, a former artistic director of the New York Shakespeare Festival, will helm the production of The Bacchae, which features a translation by Nicholas Rudall and music by Philip Glass. No casting has been announced, although the casting notice indicates that the roles of Agave, Cowherd, Messenger and The Chorus have been cast.

Rehearsals for the Public Theater production are scheduled to begin Aug. 12.

The Delacorte will also welcome the following productions this summer:

Hamlet – starring Michael Stuhlbarg, Sam Waterston, Lauren Ambrose, Andre Braugher and Margaret Colin – is the first summer offering, running May 27-June 29.

The second production is a fully mounted revival of Hair. Diane Paulus returns to direct the cast of the 2007 Delacorte concert staging that includes Jonathan Groff, Will Swenson, Patina Renea Miller and Allison Case. Performance dates are July 22-Aug. 17.
