News Puppy Love: Broadway Barks 7! Comes to Shubert Alley July 30
Long-time friends and animal rights activists Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore will host Broadway Barks 7!, the celebrity event the two award-winning actors co-created to help find homes for animals in New York City shelters.

A host of Broadway favorites will take part in the annual event, which will be held July 30 at 3:30 PM in Shubert Alley. The celebrity presentation of pets from New York City animal shelters is scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM.

In a recent statement, co-host Peters said, "Mary and I are delighted that Broadway Barks continues to be such a popular event, and we are deeply moved by the enthusiasm and support from the legions of fans and animal lovers who attend the event every year."

Moore added, "We are especially pleased to report that the euthanasia rate in New York has dropped 26 percent since 2003. That's a very encouraging statistic. It means that people are rescuing thousands of New York City area dogs and cats each year by spaying and neutering or by adopting pets through shelters participating in events such as Broadway Barks."

Among those scheduled to present animals during the annual dog and cat adopt-a-thon are Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza); Rue McClanahan (Wicked); Maureen McGovern (Little Women); Denis O'Hare (Sweet Charity); Brad Oscar (The Producers); David Hyde Pierce and Christopher Sieber (Spamalot); Joanna Gleason and Gregory Jbara (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels); Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin (Fiddler on the Roof); Erin Dilly, Marc Kudisch and Jan Maxwell (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang); Mireille Enos, David Harbour and Bill Irwin (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?); Billy Crudup, Jeff Goldblum and Madeline Martin (The Pillowman); Cheyenne Jackson and Alix Korey (All Shook Up); Ryan Duncan (Altar Boyz); Ginifer King, Marsha Mason and Frances Sternhagen (Steel Magnolias); Jesse Tyler Ferguson (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee); John Glover (The Paris Letter); Michael Mulheren (La Cage aux Folles); Jeffrey Tambor (Glengarry Glen Ross); Shuler Hensley (The Great American Trailer Park Musical); and "Guiding Light" star Crystal Hunt.

Produced by Broadway Care/Equity Fights AIDS, the event will feature pets from numerous Manhattan animal shelters and adoption agencies, including A Cause for Paws, ACC, Adopt A Boxer Rescue, Animal Haven, ASPCA, BARC Shelter, Bide-A-Wee, Bobby and the Strays, City Critters, The Humane Society of New York, Husky House, Russell Rescue Inc., Kitty Kind, Long Island Greyhound Transfer, Loving Touch, Manhattan Valley Cat Rescue, Metropolitan Maltese Rescue, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Pet-I Care, PLUTO Rescue, Siamese Rescue, SICAW, Stray From the Heart and The Tigger Foundation. Celebrity-autographed memorabilia is also available for auction on www.eBay.com using the key words "Broadway Barks." Proceeds from the auction and the July 30 event will benefit those shelters and organizations taking part in the fundraiser.

Shubert Alley is located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. (In the event of rain, Broadway Barks 7! will be held Sunday, July 31 at noon.) For more information call (212) 840-0770, ext. 477 or log on to www.broadwaybarks.com.
