News Ragtime, Streetcar, Eclipsed and Antebellum Are Helen Hayes Award Winners The Kennedy Center production of Ragtime, which began at the D.C. venue prior to a short-lived Broadway revival this past fall, took top honors at the Helen Hayes Awards April 5 in Washington, D.C.

Ragtime earned five Hayes Awards including Outstanding Resident Musical, Outstanding Director Resident Musical (Marcia Milgrom Dodge), Outstanding Lead Actress Resident Musical (Christiane Noll) and Outstanding Costume Design Resident Musical (Santo Loquasto and Jimm Halliday).

The Sydney Theatre Company production of A Streetcar Named Desire starring Cate Blanchett, which played to acclaim in Washington and New York, earned Outstanding Non-Resident Production and Outstanding Lead Actress Non-Resident Production (Blanchett).

Of Washington's 73 professional theatres, 57 theatres produced 182 productions that met eligibility requirements during the Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2009, judging cycle. From these shows, 151 artists, ensembles and productions from 25 theatres were nominated in 26 categories.
