Raindogs, a new rock musical based on Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson's Balm in Gilead, is being developed at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor, NY.

Rose Martula and Andrew MacBean, along with Wilson, penned the book to the musical inspired by the playwrights introduction to Manhattan's downtown counter-culture scene in the early 1960's. The score to Raindogs is by MacBean, Paul Chant and Boko Suzuki.

MacBean will direct and Suzuki will serve as musical director for the Bay Street workshop, which will be presented to the public Oct. 16 at 8 PM.

The workshop cast includes Alyssa Fox, Martina R. Sykes, Jo Lampert, Kelly Felthous, Anthony Lee Medina, John Jeffords, Gabreille Garza, Jimmy Kilduff, Mike Wartella, Patrick Oliver Jones, Nick Blaemire and Lucas A. Wells.

Balm in Gilead, which marked Wilson's first full-length play, tells of drug dealers, prostitutes and other denizens of Manhattan's Upper West Side who are struggling to connect.

Raindogs was first workshopped as part of London's MAD Fringe Festival in 2008. Wilson's plays also include Tally's Folley (Pulitzer Prize), The Rimers Of Eldritch, Lemon Sky, Serenading Louie, The Hot L Baltimore, The Mound Boulders, Angels Fall, 5th Of July, Talley & Son, Burn This, Redwood Curtain, Trinity, A Sense Of Place Or Virgil Is Still The Frogboy, Sympathetic Magic and Book Of Days.
