News Rajiv Joseph's Guards at the Taj Begins Tonight at Atlantic Theater Tony nominee Amy Morton (August: Osage County, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) helms the world premiere of Pulitzer finalist Rajiv Joseph's play Guards at the Taj, starring Tony-nominated actors Omar Metwally (Sixteen Wounded) and Arian Moayed (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo). Performances begin May 20 at the Atlantic Theater Company Off-Broadway.

Guards at the Taj continues through June 28, with an official opening night slated for June 11.

The play, set in India in 1648, tells the story of two guards watching the sun rise for the first time over the newly finished Taj Mahal. During the course of the morning, an event takes place that will test their friendship and change them forever.

Morton, who is a Steppenwolf Theatre Company member, is both an actor and director. Her directing credits include The Way West, Penelope and Clybourne Park.

Rajiv Joseph's play Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and played the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in 2011. His earlier plays include Gruesome Playground Injuries, Animals Out of Paper and The North Pool.
