PlayBlog Rap Musical Based on Run-DMC in the Works Influential rap group Run-DMC may be the subject of a new musical. "Mission Impossible" and "Last Samurai" producer Paula Wagner is behind the project, which is in the early discussions, according to Liz Smith in Variety.

Run-DMC founders Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels are meeting with Wagner this week to discuss the project and attend a few Broadway productions to get acquainted with the form.

Wagner's Chestnut Ridge Productions will oversee the production that promises to tell the rise of Run-DMC members Simmons, McDaniels and late group member Jason "Jam-Master Jay" Mizell in a unique way.

“Joseph and Darryl, along with their late musical partner Jason Mizell, are icons of the hip-hop world, and as Run-DMC they helped define a culture," Wagner said in a statement. "Their rise to fame was a compelling and dramatic journey filled with fantastic characters. I feel their story is very inspirational and lends itself perfectly to the stage. This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn't be more thrilled to be working with them."
