Atlantic Theater Company celebrated the official opening of Donja R. Love's play Fireflies October 16. The world premiere, directed by Saheem Ali, is the second work in Love's trilogy of plays celebrating queer black stories at pivotal moments in history.
Set in the Jim Crow South, Fireflies tells the story of young married couple Charles and Olivia. She is a fierce speech writer and he, the leader of a movement to galvanize people to march towards freedom.
Fireflies began performances September 26 and stars Khris Davis and DeWanda Wise as Charles and Olivia, respectively.
