Playwrights Horizons celebrated the world-premiere opening of Tori Sampson’s If Pretty Hurts Ugly Must Be a Muhfucka March 10. Directed by Leah C. Gardiner and choreographed by Raja Feather Kelly, the new play kicks off in the village of Affreakah-Amirrorkah, where Akim's true, perfect beauty leads her friends into a jealous and dangerous frenzy.
The cast of If Pretty Hurts, which began performances February 15, is made up of Rotimi Agbabiaka, Maechi Aharanwa, Jason Bowen, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Ian Duff, Níkẹ Uche Kadri, Mirirai Sithole, Phumzile Sitole, and Carla R. Stewart.
