The Verdict Read What Critics Thought of Working at Encores! Off-Center The musical, starring Christopher Jackson, Helen Hunt, and more, began at City Center June 26.

Working, the season opener of Encores! Off-Center's 2019 summer season, began June 26, kicking off its limited run through June 29 at New York City Center.

Andréa Burns, Mateo Ferro, David Garrison, Helen Hunt, Christopher Jackson, Javier Muñoz, and Tracie Thoms all appear in the musical, adapted from Studs Terkel’s book of the same name.

First presented on Broadway in 1978, Working explores the lives of those in the American workforce. Originally created by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, the updated musical also includes songs by Susan Birkenhead, Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mary Rodgers, and James Taylor.
