Songwriter King attended the reading, which features such King hits as "Natural Woman," "Chains," "Crying in the Rain" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" Also in attendance were Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.
Natural Woman, according to the New York daily, explores the life and career of King, including her marriage to and ultimate divorce from Gerry Goffin. Much of the action of the musical is set in the Brill Building and 1650 Broadway.
King's daughter, Sherry Goffin Kondor, is overseeing the project, according to the Post. An earlier reading was presented in May.
In 2006 Variety reported that Tony Award winner Michael Blakemore directed a reading of the musical, which featured the talents of Tom Wopat and Randy Graff. No director is currently attached to the project.
