Two stage favorites will reveal the nominees for the 2019 Lucille Lortel Awards. Tune in April 3 at noon as Rebecca Naomi Jones and Gideon Glick announce the nominations (and host) exclusively with Playbill via FB Live.
The 34th annual awards ceremony, presented by the Off-Broadway League, will take place May 5 at the NYU Skirball Center.
Prior to their current respective performances in Broadway’s Oklahoma! and To Kill a Mockingbird, Jones and Glick shared the stage in Significant Other. Jones herself was nominated for a Lortel Award in 2013 for Murder Ballad; her additional credits include Fire in Dreamland Off-Broadway and Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch, American Idiot, and Passing Strange. Before Significant Other and To Kill a Mockingbird, Glick appeared on the New York stage in Spring Awakening, The Harvest, and the Public Theater’s Into the Woods.
As previously reported, this year’s ceremony will pay special tribute to casting office Telsey + Company and Off-Broadway League President Terry Byrne. Additionally, the League will induct the late María Irene Fornés onto the Playwrights’ Sidewalk outside the Lucille Lortel Theater.
Tickets to the awards ceremony will go on sale April 3 at NYUSkirball.org.
The show is an autobiographical stand-up comedy show exploring Ricky Sim's decision to come out as gay to his terminally ill Chinese-Malaysian immigrant mother.
