Official opening for the new play by the author of The Butterfly Collection, is June 15. Wilder, by Erin Cressida Wilson, Mike Craver and Jack Herrick, will premiere as part of PH's 2003-2004 season.
Julie White played Mitzi on TV's "Six Feet Under," and appeared in Rebeck's The Family of Mann and Spike Heels.
Bad Dates "concerns Haley, a plucky New Yorker (by way of Texas), who, after spending years as a divorced mom and restaurateur, resolves to re-enter the world of dating, only to end up in hot water with the law and the Romanian mob," according to production notes. "A semi-sweet paean to lonely-hearts everywhere, Bad Dates is about learning to take a closer look, and why, when it comes down to it, there’s nothing in the world like a killer pair of Chanel pumps."
White last appeared at Playwrights Horizons in the Ahrens-Flaherty musical Lucky Stiff. Other New York stage credits include Lisa in The Heidi Chronicles on Broadway and Beth in Dinner with Friends Off-Broadway.
Playwrights Horizons' new Peter Jay Sharp Theater is in the Off-Broadway troupe's new complex, 416 W. 42nd Street. The new home opens Jan. 9 with concert presentations of shows from PH's past. The five-story building (on the site of the old theatre) will house all the theatre's producing activity under one roof, including two theaters (mainstage and studio); two rehearsal studios; administrative, artistic and production offices; and the Ticket Central box office. The full-staging launch on the mainstage comes in February with Richard Nelson and Ricky Ian Gordon's My Life With Albertine. Past Playwrights Horizons studio shows include A.R. Gurney's The Dining Room, Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy, Albert Innaurato's Gus and Al, Jonathan Marc Sherman's Sophistry, Christopher Shinn's Other People and Kia Corthron's Breath, Boom.
Preceding Bad Dates as the first studio series production in the new space is the new play, She Stoops to Comedy, written and directed by — and starring — David Greenspan. Previews begin April 3. The She Stoops to Comedy cast will also feature Mia Barron (seen earlier this season in Playwrights Horizons' The World Over), Marissa Copeland (last at Playwrights Horizons in Psych), Kristine Nielsen (previously at Playwrights Horizons in Betty's Summer Vacation), Jeremy Shamos and T. Ryder Smith.
