Reefer Madness features a book by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney with music by Studney and lyrics by Murphy.

Directed by Ilana Ransom Toeplitz, the "4/20 concert event" features original film and stage cast members Christian Campbell, John Kassir, Harry S. Murphy, Amy Spanger, Robert Torti and Lori Alan as well as Andrew Aaron Berlin, Saum Eskandani, Lauren Molina, Heather Parcells, Kristen Martin and Ryann Redmond.

Since its original Off-Broadway production in 2001, Reefer Madness has achieved a cult status in the vein of The Rocky Horror Show and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, due in part to the award-winning 2005 Sundance film adaptation.

Inspired by the over-the-top 1936 anti-pot propaganda film of the same name, Reefer Madness, according to press notes, "takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with evil jazz music, sex and violence."
