News Regina Taylor's The Trinity River Plays Opens in Dallas Nov. 12 The Dallas Theater Center world premiere of Regina Taylor's The Trinity River Plays, a dramatic trilogy that traces the journey of one woman's self-discovery from childhood to adulthood, officially opens Nov. 12.

A co-production with Chicago's Goodman Theatre, The Trinity River Plays will run through Dec. 5 at DTC's Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The Goodman run will follow Jan. 15-Feb. 20, 2011.

The trilogy, which centers around the character of Iris Sparks, includes Jar Fly, Rain and Ghost(story). All three are set in Oak Cliff, TX, a Dallas neighborhood.

In Jarfly, according to DTC notes, "a young Iris discovers that not everybody is worthy of her trust, including some family members. She keeps these struggles to herself but finds them resurfacing when she returns to her some 20 years later in Rain. During her search for solace at her mother's home in Ghost(story), Iris is faced with the impact of a startling announcement from her mother."

Leading the ensemble cast is Karen Aldridge as Iris Sparks. She played Iris in almost every workshop and reading of the play since its inception. Her credits at the Goodman include The Cook as Gladys and Proof as Catherine. The Trinity River Plays is her Dallas Theater Center debut. Also making Dallas Theater Center debuts are Christiana Clark as Jasmine, Penny Herald Johnson as Iris' mother Rose, and Jacqueline Williams as Daisy, plus Samuel Ray Gates as Jack and Jefferson A. Russell as Ray Earl and Frank.

The production has scenic design by Todd Rosenthal, costume design by Karen Perry, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound and original composition by Steven Cahill and additional music by Daryl Waters. Stage, film and TV actress Taylor (TV's "I'll Fly Away") is a Dallas native; she penned the plays Crowns, Oo-Bla-Dee, Drowning Crow, The Dreams of Sarah Breedlove and Magnolia, among others.

McSweeny directed the revival of Gore Vidal's The Best Man on Broadway.
