Rent is slowly but surely making its way around the globe. After productions in London and Australia, the Jonathan Larson paean to bohemian life in New York's East Village opened on Feb. 25 at the Capital Theater in Dusseldorf, Germany. Leading German producer Marek Lieberberg brought the American musical to Germany, and is co-presenting it with original producers Jeffrey Seller, Kevin McCollum and Allan S. Gordon. Lieberberg reportedly invested $2 million in the show.

The cast includes Alex Melcher in the role of filmmaker Mark and Sean Ghazi as cross-dressing musician Angel. Ghazi was recently cast as Lun Ta in the new Jodie Foster film, "Anna and the King of Siam." The movie is based on the same story that inspired the musical The King and I.

Heinz Rudolf Kunze translated the libretto into German. Rock singer Kunze is already highly-regarded for his translations of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon.
