Marilu Henner will don buckskin this summer, according to Variety, which reported that the actress would play Annie Oakley in the national tour of the Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, currently a hit on Broadway. The road show is scheduled to begin in Dallas and then journey to New Haven, CT. Who would star in the Annie tour has been a source of speculation for many months. Kathie Lee Gifford was long a leading candidate in various reports until the talk show host recently took herself out of contention. Furthermore, the issue is not yet dead: a New York spokesman for the show would not confirm the Henner casting, saying no contracts had been signed.
Henner was one of the early Roxie Harts in the Broadway production of Chicago. She is still perhaps best known for her role as Elaine Nardo in the sitcom "Taxi."
Annie Get Your Gun features Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat at the Marquis Theatre on Broadway. The show took home the 1999 Best Musical Revival Tony Award.
