Riabko, who succeeded Jonathan Groff as Melchior in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening, originated that role for the national tour of the production, which launched in San Francisco last September.

The Canadian singer-songwriter took a leave of absence from the touring production of the rock musical to film a new pilot for ABC television. In his absence, Broadway Spring Awakening cast member Matt Doyle assumed the role of Melchior on March 18 when the musical arrived in Toronto.

On April 14 Riabko will return to the Spring Awakening tour, which concludes its run at the Canon Theatre April 19. He will continue with the production for its future touring engagements.

The young cast of Spring Awakening also features Blake Bashoff (Moritz), Christy Altomare (Wendla), Steffi D (Ilse), Krystina Alabado (Swing), Julie Benko (Ensemble), Todd Cerveris (Understudy Adult Men), Chase Davidson (Swing), Steffi D, Kate Fuglei (Understudy Adult Women), Gabrielle Garza (Anna), Kimiko Glenn (Thea), Kate Hampton (Adult Women), Sarah Hunt (Martha), Anthony Lee Medina (Otto), Andy Mientus (Hanschen), Ben Moss (Ernst), Angela Reed (Adult Women), Perry Sherman (Ensemble), Matt Shingledecker (Georg), Claire Sparks (Ensemble), Henry Stram (Adult Men) and Lucas A. Wells (Ensemble).

As on Broadway, Michael Mayer directs; the touring production also reunites the entire creative team from the award-winning New York production. Additional tour engagements for Spring Awakening include:
Providence, RI (April 21-26, at the Providence Performing Arts Center)
Boston, MA (April 28-May 24, at the Colonial Theatre)

Based on the 1891 play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening won eight 2007 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Spring Awakening features direction by Michael Mayer, choreography by Bill T. Jones, book and lyrics by Steven Sater and a score by Duncan Sheik.
