News Richard Waits to Star in Uncle Tom's Cabin at Metropolitan Playhouse Theatre veteran Richard Waits will appear in Uncle Tom's Cabin, George L. Aiken's adaptation of the classic Harriet Beecher Stowe anti-slavery novel, at the Metropolitan Playhouse beginning Nov. 13.

An official opening is set for Nov. 19 for a run through Dec. 12.

The cast will also feature Alex Marshall-Brown, Rick Delaney, Marcie Hendersen, Helen Highfield, J.M. McDonough, George Lee Miles, Lisa Riegel, Dan Snow and Peter Tedeschi.

Alex Roe will direct and design the set for the production with costumes by Sidney Forner  and lighting by Christopher Weston. Bix Bettwy will contribute music to the production.

Stowe's tale of the inhumanity of slavery and a pair of young lovers' attempts to escape it was a popular source for theatrical adaptation in the 19th century. Aiken's version was first staged in 1853.

Waits appeared in the Actors' Fund concerts of Dreamgirls and Chess, the Old Globe production of The First Wives Club in San Diego and a workshop of The Scottsboro Boys. The performance schedule for Uncle Tom's Cabin is Wednesdays-Sundays at 8 PM, with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 PM.
