News   Ricky Jay & His 52 Assistants Extension Bumps Geffen Runs of A Picasso and Fat Pig
The upcoming Geffen Playhouse staging of Ricky Jay & His 52 Assistants has extended its Los Angeles run through Jan. 27, 2007. A Picasso and Fat Pig also have new dates.

David Mamet directs the titular star in his OBIE Award-winning show, which will begin previews Nov. 21 and open Nov. 22 in the California company's Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater.

In related Geffen news, the postponed L.A. debut of Jeffrey Hatcher's A Picasso is now slated to play Feb. 4-March 25, 2007 with a Feb. 11 opening. Due to the move of the Hatcher work, Neil LaBute's Fat Pig will now start May 5, 2007, for a run through June 10.

Considered one of the world's great sleight-of-hand artists, Jay will perform "a fascinating blend of card artistry and verbal chicanery," according to a release. Due to the intimate space (only 96 audience members will be allowed per show), latecomers will not be seated. No one under 17 will be admitted.

Jay has also performed his other sleight-of-hand show Ricky Jay: On the Stem Off-Broadway under the direction of Mamet. A constant collaborator with the scribe, he has appeared in such Mamet films as "Heist," "State and Main" and "The Spanish Prisoner" as well as such non-Mamet works as "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia" and "Tomorrow Never Dies." Other credits include "Deadwood" and "Kidnapped." The Geffen Playhouse currently presents Carrie Fisher's Wishful Drinking, through Dec. 24. Also slated are David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow (Jan. 30 March 18, 2007), Tom Stoppard's translation of Gérald Sibleyras' Heroes (April 10-May 27, 2007) and Hershey Felder's George Gershwin Alone (June 5-July 22, 2007).
