News Rinde Eckert’s Latest, Horizon, Arrives at Montclair, NJ, Nov. 16-20 Rinde Eckert, the avant-garde author of the celebrated And God Created Great Whales, will see his new work Horizon presented at Montclair State University for a four-performance run Nov. 16-20.

The piece is inspired by the life of German-American theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, here called Reinhart Poole. Niebuhr believed in socialism, but his convictions faded when faced with the horrors of World War II. In the play's story, Poole's "Socratic and exciting teaching methods have put him at odds with the self-righteous powers-that-be. We join the character of Poole as he prepares his last lecture, his night of wandering in the figurative desert as he addresses his wife and parents, the ghost of his brother, revisits a play he has written and ponders his future outside the seminary. After the controls and freedoms of the academic life and the exploration of the Christian marketplace within its walls, does he have the talent or the patience for the life of a pastor?"

Horizon is directed by David Schweitzer. Eckert performs the lead role, and composed the music featured in the piece.

Tickets are $35. Call (973) 655-5112.
