Following a special six-week engagement of the popular Irish dance spectacle, Riverdance -- The Homecoming, will close officially in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 19. However, Playbill On-Line has just learned that an additional Aug. 20 charity performance has been added to the schedule. The limited homecoming engagement, which opened July 10, marked the first time the show has been presented in Dublin since its debut at The Point Theatre on Feb. 9, 1995.

Riverdance Homecoming will then continue with a European/Asian tour.

Production sources report that Riverdance -- The Homecoming has added the Aug. 20 Dublin date to help "raise awareness of the increasing problem of racially motivated violence in Ireland." This problem, sources said, stems from economic growth in Ireland, which has coincided with a rise in the number of immigrants. The immigrants put pressure on welfare roles and other services, which contributes, when combined with other biases, to a social backlash.

Sources said that the proceeds go to "Comhlamh to support the Le Cheile (Le Cheile - Artists Against Racism in Ireland)." The extra performance is presented locally in Dublin by Abhann Productions in association with Comhlamh and MCD.

As reported earlier, Riverdance has played to capacity crowds in England, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, German, Belgium, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Finland and Mexico. Riverdance -- On Broadway is selling tickets through the New Year at the Gershwin Theatre. A national tour is underway in the United States. The music for Riverdance was composed by Grammy winner Bill Whelan (1997 Grammy Award for "Best Musical Show Album). Riverdance is produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan.

Tickets to the Aug. 20 charity show are £30 (Irish). To order tickets call Ticketmaster at 011-3531-649-5495 or by visiting www.riverdance.com.
