Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will present its first musical since 2004 this fall when artistic director Bonnie J. Monte stages Man of La Mancha starring Broadway's Robert Cuccioli in the dual role of Cervantes/Don Quixote.

The 1966 Tony Award-winning musical version of the Cervantes novel "Don Quixote" is by Dale Wasserman with lyrics by Joe Darion and music by Mitch Leigh. Its signature tune is "The Impossible Dream," to be sung by 1997 Tony Award nominee Cuccioli, of Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde.

Man of La Mancha will play Oct. 17-Nov. 18.

The 2012 season marks the 50th for the resident company devoted to the works of Shakespeare (and other international dramatic literature).

Founded in 1963 in Cape May by Paul Barry and Philip Dorian as the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, the company was invited to take up residence at Drew University in Madison, NJ, in 1972. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of the troupe's residency in Madison.

Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey performs at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre in Madison. The Shakespeare Theatre's Main Stage season begins in late May and will continue through December. The 2012 season also features William Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part One, directed by associate artistic director Joseph Discher, May 30-June 24; a new David Ives adaptation of Pierre Corneille's French farce The Liar, directed by Paul Mullins, July 4-29; Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, directed by Monte, Aug. 8-26; an Outdoor Stage production of The Comedy of Errors at the Greek amphitheatre at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morris Township, directed by Jason King Jones, June 20-July 29; director Brian B. Crowe's production of Neil Bartlett's adaptation of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, featuring an ensemble of 12 actors playing multiple roles, Sept. 12-Oct. 7; and the sentimental valentine to theatre people, Trelawny of the Wells by Arthur Wing Pinero, directed by Monte, Dec. 5-30.
