Atlantic Theater’s Atlantic for Kids program will kick off its 2016-17 season with the family musical 1001 Nights: A Love Story About Loving Stories beginning September 17. The musical with puppets is an adaptation of the Arabian Nights fairy tales, featuring music and lyrics by Frozen’s Robert Lopez and a book by Lopez and Adam Koplan.

Lopez wrote the music for 1001 Nights when he was 23. It was his first show after college, which debuted at the NYC Fringe Festival in 1998. The Atlantic for Kids production will feature a brand-new song exclusively written for the re-imagined staging.

The show is also directed by Koplan and is recommended for ages five and up. Performances will take place in the Atlantic’s Linda Gross Theatre through October 16.

1001 Nights features an ensemble cast of young actors, including PJ Adzima, Caitlin Donohue, Lydia Granered, Jamee Hanson, Donovan Mendelovitz, Derek Christopher Murphy, Vanessa Pereda-Felix and Ben Schrager.

“In this celebration of brainy imagination over brawn, a princess uses her wits to save a kingdom from an evil decree as she spins tale after tale for a narrow-minded king,” state production notes from the Atlantic Theater Company.

The 1001 Nights creative team features musical direction by Madeline Smith, choreography by MK Lawson, puppet direction by Matt Acheson, scenic design by James Aitken, costume design by Erik Teague, lighting design by Steve O’Shea, sound design by Jeanne Wu, orchestration by Rick Modlin and production stage management by Ben Shipley.

1001 Nights was originally produced by The Flying Carpet Theater and The Center for Puppetry Arts, Atlanta, GA.

1001 Nights performances are Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 AM. Atlantic Theater Company’s The Linda Gross Theater is located at 336 West 20th Street, New York. To purchase tickets visit or call Ovation Tix at (866) 811-4111.
