Classic Arts News Roberto Alagna Withdraws From Turin Manon Lescaut, Citing Health Problems Tenor Roberto Alagna has canceled a series of upcoming performances at Turin's Teatro Regio because of "serious health problems," the company announced.
Alagna will miss tonight's premiere of a new production of Puccini's Manon Lescaut directed by the actor Jean Reno. Antonello Palombi will replace him. A performance on January 20 has been canceled.

According to the web site Opera Critic, Alagna has suffered from attacks of sudden hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, for two years. He missed a planned performance at a New Year's Eve gala in Paris because of the problem, and recently lost consciousness at a rehearsal.
