The Holbee Productions and Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) presentation of Owen Robertson and Michael Brown's The Women In My Soul opened Aug. 10 and will run through Aug. 26 at the Common Basis Theatre. The play is presented as part of the MITF.

Robertson and Brown's one man show stars the latter, a Boston-area actor, in a "quintet of monologues featuring five women of various ages, nationalities and races." Developed through improvisation, and then into monologue form by New York playwright Robertson, The Women In My Soul has been featured in the New York International Fringe Festival and various downtown venues.

Though not a drag act, Brown employs simple costume changes to become "Lornabelle, a woman on the verge, presiding over her regional Amway convention; Penelope, an Englishwoman in her golden years auditioning for a West End production of The Importance of Being Earnest despite the fact she is a theatrical novice and that she buried her husband that morning; Elena, a former Playboy “Girls of the Soviet Union” centerfold; Josephina, a lock-jawed New England lesbian homesteading in Maine; and Loretta, an African-American cashier from Toledo who has become a national celebrity after being put on trial for speaking ebonics."

Directed by Jason Southerland, artistic director and founder of Boston Theatre Works company, this marks the second time Southerland and Robertson have had success staging a play: they previously presented Robertson’s musical version of Dracula in a recent Boston reading.

The Women In My Soul will closing the MITF on Aug. 26 at 9 PM. Tickets are $12. The Common Basis Theatre is located at 270 Eighth Ave, No. 500. For tickets call Ticket Central (212) 279-4200. For further information visit www.oobr.com.
