California Schemin', a comedy by Ron House, whose Low Moan Spectacular created such hits as El Grande de Coca-Cola and Bullshot Crummond, will be the opening show at NoHo's newest space, the Whitmore-Lindley Theatre Center on Sat. Feb. 6 at 8 PM.

California Schemin' is directed by House and produced by Jeannette Lewis, Edmund Gaynes and Gilbert Adler. The latter produced both of House's previous shows. Gaynes is producing artistic director of both the Whitmore-Lindley Theatre Center and the Two Roads Theatre in Studio City.

The six actors in the ensemble cast are: House, Amy Court, Marcia Del Mar, Denise Moses, Oliver Muirhead and Donovan Scott. House's play depicts the machinations of one Roger Gallals, a self proclaimed genius. Gallals is in danger of be evicted from his office, and must employ a myriad of disguises and cons to get the money he needs to stay put.

"It's a madcap, typical Ron House kind of comedy," producer Gaynes told Playbill On-Line (Feb. 5). "On the surface it's frenetic and wacky... but these kinds of plays aren't slopped together. The timing must be impeccable, and the cast are pros. It's fun to watch."

The Whitmore-Lindley Theatre, named for actors James Whitmore and the late Audra Lindley, is located at 11006 Magnolia Blvd. Call (818) 761-0704. -- By Willard Manus
