Following a staging (and an American debut) in Seattle by the American Contemporary Theatre, playwright Martin McDonagh's (The Beauty Queen of Leenane) A Skull in Connemara will be produced by the Roundabout Theatre Company. Previews begin Jan. 30, 2001, and the show opens Feb. 22.
Directed by Gordon Edelstein, the play will be presented at Roundabout's Off-Broadway stage, The Gramercy Theatre. Casting announcements are forthcoming.
A Roundabout statement indicates that "this production will mark the completion of the Leenane trilogy of plays in New York; which included the Broadway productions of The Beauty Queen of Leenane and The Lonesome West.
This second installment in McDonagh's Leenane trilogy premiered in Galway, Ireland in 1997. Production notes say the play "explores the sometimes bizarre, funny and terrifying tales of life in this remote part of Ireland." The Gramercy Theatre is located at 127 E. 23 St.
