News Rubin-Vega to Be Honored Nov. 12; LaChanze to Sing Daphne Rubin-Vega, who was most recently on Broadway playing the ill-fated Fantine in the current revival of Les Misérables, will be honored Nov. 12 at NYU's Kimmel Center.

The singing actress will receive the William F. Passannante Award at the Village Care of New York's 30th anniversary benefit, "Legends of The Village." Rubin-Vega is being honored for her "contributions to the world of entertainment." Previous recipients of the award include Phyllis Newman, Joanne Beretta, Anthony Heilbut, Farley Granger, Robert Calhoun, George Bartenieff, Madeline Lee Gilford, Bob Kohler, Ann Snitow, Paul Krassner, Elizabeth Kendall, Anna Deavere Smith and Dr. Charles P. Vialotti. The upcoming evening honoring Rubin-Vega will include a performance by Tony Award winner LaChanze. Cocktails will kick off the night at 6 PM in the Eisner & Lubin Auditorium, followed by dinner and entertainment at 7 PM in the Rosenthal Pavilion.

Prior to Les Miz, Daphne Rubin-Vega appeared in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna in the Tropics, earning a Tony Award nomination for her performance. She was also Tony-nominated for her role as Mimi in the original company of Rent. Rubin-Vega appeared in Broadway's The Rocky Horror Show, and her Off-Broadway credits include Everythings Turning Into Beautiful, Bernarda Alba, Fucking A, Gum and Two Sisters and a Piano. On screen she has been seen in "Wild Things," "Flawless" and "Skeleton Woman." Her solo recordings are titled "Rocket Man" and "Redemption Songs."
