Lev Dodin directs the U.S. premiere of Friedrich Schiller’s gripping drama in the Harvey Theater June 6–16.

Performances begin June 6 in the BAM Harvey Theater for Russia’s acclaimed Maly Drama Theatre production of Love and Intrigue by Friedrich Schiller. Lev Dodin, who directs, returns to the Brooklyn Academy of Music following his productions of Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard in 2016 and The Three Sisters in 2012.

Schiller's 18th century play has been adapted by Dodin in this all-new production. Danila Kozlovsky, Ksenia Rappoport, and Elizaveta Boyarskaya from The Cherry Orchard appear as Ferdinand, Lady Milford, and Louise Miller.

Performances are in Russian with English titles. Watch the trailer above.

Billed as a Romeo and Juliet for the bourgeois age, Love and Intrigue tells the story of Ferdinand, the son of a high-ranking courtier who upends his father’s carefully laid plans of a fortuitous marriage by falling in love with the daughter of a middle-class musician.

The production features design by Alexander Borovsky, lighting design by Damir Ismagilo, music by Ludwig van Beethoven, and additional text by Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Otto von Bismark.

Performances continue through June 16. Visit for more information.
