The announcement follows a long association between Sadler’s Wells and Bourne that goes back to 1992 with Nutcracker!, and the 1995 world premiere of Swan Lake, which famously featured a bevy of partially feathered male swans. Bourne's original New Adventures - formerly Adventures in Motion Pictures - has been based at the theatre since 1992 and will join Wayne MacGregor's Random Dance company as a resident of the theatre. Marking the residency, Sadler’s Wells will revive New Adventures’ 2000 work The Car Man. The four-week season in July 2007 will be part of an 18-week U.K. tour of the show.

Based on Bizet’s "Carmen,” The Car Man relocates the opera to a 1960’s American garage and diner.

Next month sees three of Bourne's shows open on consecutive days. On Nov. 14, New Adventures' adaptation of Edward Sissorhands opens; on Nov. 15 Swan Lake returns to the Theatre du Mogador in Paris as part of a world tour that travels back to London for Sadler’s Wells’ Christmas season; on Nov. 16, the Bourne-choreographed and co-directed musical Mary Poppins opens at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre. For the London version he received the 2005 Olivier Award for Choreography.
