Classic Arts News Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra Posts Surplus The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra ran a surplus of $201,570 for the 2003-04 season, the ensemble announced.
The positive result comes a year after the SPCO posted a deficit of $790,000 for the 2002-03 season, its first loss in a decade. In response, the group boosted fundraising and cut expenses.

"Our entire organization worked hard to achieve a balanced budget this year and we are very proud of our success," said president and managing director Bruce Coppock.

Donations rose by 11 percent in 2003-04 compared to 2002-03, the orchestra said. About 80 percent of patrons renewed their subscriptions‹the highest renewal rate in 16 years.

The SPCO also announced that it has received a $1.27 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
