The play, which runs May 24-June 4, will open the Bay Street season. At one point, there was talk that Japes would reach Broadway. Running for two and a half months in the London's Theatre Royal, Haymarket, in 2001, Japes was originally directed by Peter Hall, and starred Jasper Britton and Toby Stephens. Japes is described as "an unflinching, often funny look at two brothers who share the house in which they were born—and the woman they both love."

  Robards also won a Clarence Derwent Award for his performance in the Miller play. He has also appeared in The Exonerated at Off-Broadway's 45 Bleecker Theatre and Misalliance at the Roundabout Theatre Company.

The Bay Street season also includes a revival of No Time For Comedy, S.N. Behrman's drawing room comic drama about the need for laughter during dire times, directed by Daniel Gerroll (June 14-July 3); Sleuth, the popular, two-hander thriller about the sexual rivalry and gamesmanship between two men by Anthony Shaffer (July 12-July 31); and Mary Chase's evergreen comedy about societal mores and invisible rabbits, Harvey (Aug. 9-28).
