Tony Award nominee Colman Domingo (The Scottsboro Boys) officiated the ceremonies on the stage alongside the cast of the Broadway engagement of Hair. Among the couples wed were Follies star Terri White and jewelry designer Donna Barnett; actor Ryan Dietz and playwright Josh Levine; and stage doorman John Raymond Barker and Jujamcyn Theaters usher Jared Pike.

The event was planned by Broadway Impact, an organization dedicated to promoting LGBT equality that was co-founded by 2008 Hair revival cast member Gavin Creel and Book of Mormon star Rory O'Malley. O'Malley, along with Public Theater artistic director Oskar Eustis and Jujamcyn Theaters president Jordan Roth, announced July 13 that the St. James would host the marriages in celebration of New York State's landmark marriage equality legislation.
