News Samonsky, Caplan and Anderson Join Broadway's South Pacific Jan. 6 Andrew Samonsky, who created the role of Lt. Eustis Carmichael in the Tony-winning revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, will step into the role of Lt. Joe Cable Jan. 6.

Samonsky succeeds original star Matthew Morrison, who played his final performance Jan. 4.

Also on Jan. 6, original cast member Matt Caplan steps into the role of Professor (succeeding Noah Weisberg) and Eric Anderson joins the cast in the role of Stewpot (originally created by Victor Hawks). Both Weisberg and Hawks gave their final performances Jan. 4.

Andrew Samonsky played Bob Wallace in White Christmas at the Denver Theater Center and was seen in the national tour of Disney's On The Record. Matt Caplan has appeared on Broadway in Rent and High Fidelity and in the national tour of Rent. Eric Anderson, who will make his Broadway debut in South Pacific, appeared as Merlyn in the national tour of Camelot and as Burrs in the Los Angeles premieres of both versions of The Wild Party.

Directed by Bartlett Sher, Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific won seven Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.

The cast currently stars Kelli O'Hara as Ensign Nellie Forbush and David Pittsinger as Emile de Becque with Danny Burstein, Loretta Ables Sayre, Murphy Guyer, Sean Cullen, Luka Kain, and Michael Arnold, Becca Ayers, Wendi Bergamini, Genson Blimline, Charlie Brady, Christian Carter, Eric L. Christian, Helmar Augustus Cooper, Margot de la Barre, Christian Delcroix, Laura Marie Duncan, Mike Evariste, Julie Foldesi, Rob Gallagher, Maryann Hu, Zachary James, Robert Lenzi, Deborah Lew, Peter Lockyer, Garrett Long, Nick Mayo, Liz McCartney, George Merrick, William Michals, Kimber Monroe, George Psomas, Greg Roderick and Jerold E. Solomon.
