The publishing company picked up the new works from Morillo, who is currently represented with the extended run of All Aboard the Marriage Hearse at the Theater for the New City through Feb. 9. Morillo previously made his playwriting debut with Angry Young Women in Low Rise Jeans With High Class Issues in 2007.
Angry Young Women… was produced by the Theater for the New City for a limited run in January 2007 and made an Off-Broadway transfer to the Players Theatre in July 2007, where it ran for 51 performances. The production recently concluded an engagement in Sydney, Australia.
Angry Young Women in Low Rise Jeans With High Class Issues, according to press notes, is "a series of vignettes about the psychology of nervous urban goddesses. It parades a series of foxy, witty and anxious women who bear the expectations of the world like an itchy muffler. They go head to head with such issues as Electra complexes, bikini waxes, low rider jeans, their oversexed mothers, thongs, brazen teenagers, men's sexual fantasies, side effects of birth control drugs, mean teenagers on the subway, sympathy sex and the artistic integrity of penises and vaginas in independent films."
Morillo's second work for the stage, All Aboard the Marriage Hearse, centers on "Sean and Amy, your typical co-habitating, Catholic/Jewish, twentysomething couple living in Manhattan," according to production notes. "They work hard, love each other and share common goals in life. Well, sort of. After nearly three years together, Amy wants to get married but Sean does not believe in the institution. Tonight is the night when they will settle the marriage question once and for all. They will both bring their "A" game and the gloves will come off. Sean will try to talk her out of it. Amy will try to talk him into it. Will they break up? Will they keep going on the path they're on? Will they climb aboard the 'Marriage Hearse'?"
