The American Theatre Wing held its centennial gala September 18, which celebrated “the power of musical theatre in American life over the past 100 years.”
Performances were given by Tony Award winners Brian Stokes Mitchell, Gavin Creel, and Heather Headley; Tony nominees Laura Osnes, Norm Lewis, Santino Fontana, Beth Malone, and Howard McGillin; and other Broadway stars including Taylor Trensch and Natalie Cortez. All shared their talent at the event, which was held at Cipriani restaurant at 110 East 42nd Street in New York City.
The event raised over $1.2 million, marking a record-breaking year for the Wing. The performances were captured by BroadwayHD and will be released on the streaming service in early 2018.

The service organization that created the Tony Awards in memory of one of its co-founders, Antoinette Perry, was started in 1917 as The Stage Women’s War Relief, which enabled theatre folk to support the war effort during World War I. The Wing ran the famous Stage Door Canteen (free to servicemen) during World War II. Partnering with the Broadway League, the Wing launched and continues to host the annual Tonys, recognizing the best in Broadway. The Wing now also oversees and presents the Obie Awards for Off-Broadway achievement, among many other support activities for the theatre community.
