According to the San Antonio Express-News, the orchestra has had seven permanent and interim heads in the last seven years, of which four had no musical background.
In a statement, Green said, "I have spent many years enjoying and supporting classical music as a patron, and this is a wonderful opportunity for me to contribute to the musical and educational fabric of the city. The board, musicians, staff, and I will work together closely to continue bringing new and exciting music programs and educational events to the citizens of San Antonio, while growing the symphony's financial strength."
Ken Oleson, chairman of the symphony's board, said, "The board is delighted to welcome David to the San Antonio Symphony family.... He has the leadership and team building skills necessary to continue the symphony's momentum in all aspects of its operations."
Green is a native of Victoria, Texas, and studied business at the University of Texas at Austin.
