Classic Arts News San Antonio Symphony Appoints Businessman to Top Post David Green has been appointed president and CEO of the San Antonio Symphony, the ensemble announced January 12.
Green's background is in business, not music: He is a former executive for Coca-Cola Bottling of the Southwest and the Lancer Corporation. He has also worked with non-profit organizations including Teach For America and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the orchestra has had seven permanent and interim heads in the last seven years, of which four had no musical background.

In a statement, Green said, "I have spent many years enjoying and supporting classical music as a patron, and this is a wonderful opportunity for me to contribute to the musical and educational fabric of the city. The board, musicians, staff, and I will work together closely to continue bringing new and exciting music programs and educational events to the citizens of San Antonio, while growing the symphony's financial strength."

Ken Oleson, chairman of the symphony's board, said, "The board is delighted to welcome David to the San Antonio Symphony family.... He has the leadership and team building skills necessary to continue the symphony's momentum in all aspects of its operations."

Green is a native of Victoria, Texas, and studied business at the University of Texas at Austin.
