News San Diego's Fritz Theatre Announces 1999-2000 Season, So Far "The season so far" was announced by the Fritz Theatre. Topping the 1999-2000 bill is Gangster Number One, by Louis Mellis & David Scinto, which follows the rise of a British crime lord through the seamy London underworld from the 1960s to the present. The play has been turned into a film version which is presently being shot in London with Malcolm McDowell and David Thewliss in the leads.

"The season so far" was announced by the Fritz Theatre. Topping the 1999-2000 bill is Gangster Number One, by Louis Mellis & David Scinto, which follows the rise of a British crime lord through the seamy London underworld from the 1960s to the present. The play has been turned into a film version which is presently being shot in London with Malcolm McDowell and David Thewliss in the leads.

After Gangster Number One closes on Oct. 24, the Fritz will mount Escape From Happiness by Canadian playwright George Walker. The play deals with Nora, the matriarch of a radically dysfunctional family, who takes on urban squalor, police corruption, street gangs and domestic violence. Escape runs through Dec. 5.

Harold Pinter's The Hothouse will open Dec. 16 and run through Jan. 16, 2000. A black comedy set in a loony bin at Christmas, The Hothouse was called by Time Magazine "Pinter's funniest play."
