Classic Arts News San Francisco Opera Announces Summer Lineup The San Francisco Opera has dubbed its summer 2006 season "Return of the Divas." Patricia Racette, Ruth Ann Swenson, and Dolora Zajick, who began their careers with the company, return to star, respectively, in Madama Butterfly, Le nozze di Figaro, and the company premiere of Joan of Arc.
The season, which runs May 27-July 2 at the War Memorial House, opens May 27 with Puccini's Madama Butterfly. Racette is Cio-San, SFO music director Donald Runnicles conducts; Ron Daniels directs; sets are by Michael Yeargan.

Joan of Arc opens June 3 and features mezzo-soprano Zajick in the title role and baritone Rod Gilfry in a new SFO production of the work. Christopher Alexander directs; sets are by Robert Dahlstrom.

Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro opens June 10 with Swenson and Twyla Robinson alternating as Countess Almaviva. Roy Goodman conducts; John Copley directs; sets are by Robert Hill.

Racette, Swenson, and Zajick began their careers through the San Francisco Opera Center's Adler Fellowship and the Merola Opera Program.
