News San Francisco Spelling Bee Cast Ready for Boston Sit-Down of Musical The cast has been announced for the sit-down production of the musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in Boston, starting Sept. 26.

Jon B. Platt presents the musical — which still plays on Broadway and is currently preparing for its national tour — for its Boston premiere at the Wilbur Theatre. Directed by James Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods) and created by William Finn, Rachel Sheinkin and Rebecca Feldman, Bee is currently on sale for the Massachusetts run through Nov. 12.

Stars of the current San Francisco run (which ends Sept. 3) will reprise their roles as the loveable misfit contestants and Bee staff. They include Aaron J. Albano (Wicked national tour, Bombay Dreams) as Chip Tolentino, Stanley Bahorek (Big River national tour, A Little Night Music) as Leaf Coneybear, Jenni Barber (Henry and Mudge, The High Life) as Olive Ostrovsky, Jared Gertner (Anatomy 1968, My Favorite Year) as William Barfee, James Monroe Iglehart (Showboat national tour, Memphis) as Mitch Mahoney, Sara Inbar (Mamma Mia!, Lizzie Borden) as Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre, Greta Lee (No Boundaries - NYMF) as Marcy Park and recent Broadway Spelling Bee addition Betsy Wolfe (A Wonderful Life) as Rona Lisa Peretti.

They are joined by Daniel Pearce (A Mother, A Daughter and A Gun) assuming the role of Douglas Panch. Elsa Carmona, Evan D'Angeles, Veronica Reyes and Matt Wilson serve as understudies.

Spelling Bee was based on C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E, an original play created by Feldman and the comedy troupe The Farm. Composer-lyricist Finn provides the score to the musical incarnation with a book by librettist Sheinkin.

The musical earned six Tony Award nominations including Best Score, Best Book, Best Direction, Best Featured Actor (Dan Fogler) and Featured Actress (Celia Keenan Bolger) as well as for the top prize of Best Musical. Fogler and book writer Sheinkin took home awards for their work. Bee recouped its initial investment of $3.5 million 18 weeks after opening on Broadway at the Circle in the Square — where it still performs. There is currently an open-ended run at Chicago's Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place and a run at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre (through Sept. 17).

Tickets to the Boston run at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont Street, are available by calling (617) 931-2787 or through spellingbeethemusical.com/boston.
