Classic Arts News San Francisco Symphony Tours Southern California The San Francisco Symphony sets out today on a five-day, five concert tour of Southern California.
The tour features Mahler's Ninth Symphony, and is conducted by music director Michael Tilson Thomas. The SFS performs tonight at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa before traveling to Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Palm Desert, and San Diego,

The orchestra is in the process of recording the complete Mahler symphonies for its in-house recording company. SFS Media. The multi-year project, launched in 2001, has already garnered the orchestra two Grammy Awards, for the Sixth Symphony and Third Symphony. Symphony No. 2 was recently released, and Symphony No. 9 has been recorded and will be released later this year.
