Les Waters — who staged the Ruhl work at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in 2004, then at Yale Rep — returns for the New York staging at the midtown Manhattan stage. The show officially opens June 18 to end the company's season July 21.

From the pen of Pulitzer Prize finalist Ruhl (The Clean House) comes a new take on "the classic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice through the eyes of its heroine as she journeys to the underworld and struggles to retain her memories of her lost love." The work premiered at Madison Repertory Theatre in 2003 and has also been seen at the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

The cast of eurydice includes Maria Dizzia (The Wooden Breeks) as Eurydice, Gian-Murray Gianino (Psyche) as Loud Stone, Carla Harting (Orson's Shadow) as Little Stone, Ramiz Monsef (All That I Will Ever Be) as Big Stone, Joseph Parks (The Sweetest Swing in Baseball at Magic Theatre) as Orpheus, Charles Shaw Robinson (The Cradle Will Rock) as Eurydice's Father and Mark Zeisler (Brooklyn Boy) as Nasty Interesting Man/Lord of the Underworld.

The design team comprises Scott Bradley (scenic), Meg Neville (costume), Russell H. Champa (lighting) and Bray Poor (sound).

This summer, Second Stage continues its annual Uptown Festival with Marisa Wegrzyn's The Butcher of Baraboo (through June 30) and Josh Tobiessen's Election Day (July 16-Aug. 18) at the McGinn/Cazale Theater.
