Glover is credited with bringing tap dance to the hip-hop generation with shows such as Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk‹a long-running Broadway hit‹and the more recent Improvography. In Classical Savion, he will perform to music by such composers as Bach and Stravinsky, accompanied by a live ensemble.

According to the New York Times, Glover has worked with conductor and arranger Robert Sadin, with whom he has previously worked on a Carnegie Hall celebration for saxophonist Wayne Shorter, to choose music for the new show.

Glover told the Times he was looking for "hard-core classical" with an "edgy subtleness." The show, he said, was "about this solo dancer needing the music. . . Needing to challenge this music, you know? How dare there not be a tap dancer around when this music is being played?"

He said he has been listening to classical music all his life.

Glover was last at the Joyce in 2003, with Improvography, an evening of improvised solo work performed with his dance group Ti Dii.
