An auction of Scarlet Pimpernel memorabilia held June 14 at New York's Marriot Marquis Hotel raised $12,800 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS. More than 125 fans of the Broadway musical made their bids on such prizes as backstage tours and props from the show.
The fan-friendly Pimpernel star Douglas Sills -- who seems to be relishing the role of Broadway star as much as any actor in recent memory -- made a surprise appearance modeling the last item in the auction, an official cast jacket. The result was the highest bid of the day: $1,650.
