It was the Palladium where Steele headlined Singin’ in the Rain for a record-breaking 894 performances.
Steele became famous with a string of Hollywood movies, including “The Happiest Millionaire,” “Finian’s Rainbow” and “Half a Sixpence.” He’ll play in Leslie Bricusse’s Christmas show for a limited season through Jan. 14, 2006.
The show, seen around the world, has been revised for the London engagement. There are specially created illusions by Paul Kieve, the magician who created magic effects for the “Harry Potter” films, direction by Bob Tomson and designs by Paul Farnsworth.
Bricusse wrote the lyrics, music and the book. He’s best known for his work with Anthony Newley, including the show Stop the World I Want to Get Off (which ran for 556 performances on Broadway), the song “Goldfinger” and the film “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
