Seattle Opera will also present its first-ever performances of Rossini's L'Italiana in Algeri and Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto. As previously reported, the company will host the finals of its first International Wagner Competition on August 19.
Der Rosenkavalier opens the season on August 5. Alice Coote is Octavian; Peter Rose is Baron Ochs. Vaness, a frequent performer at Seattle Opera, returns for the challenging lead role.
Don Giovanni, which opens in January 2007, will be directed by Chris Alexander, with sets by Robert A. Dahlstrom, costumes by Marie-Theresa Cramer, and lighting by Robert Wierzel. Andreas Mitisek conducts; Mariesz Kwiecien and Morgan Smith share the title role.
L'Italiana in Algeri, in October, will star Stephanie Blythe as Isabella; the cast of Giulio Cesare in Egitto, scheduled for February 2007, will include contralto Ewa Podles and countertenor Brian Asawa.
A revival of Puccini's La bohme, with Philip Cutlip as Marcello, closes the season in May 2007.
