Classic Arts News Seattle Opera Opens Season With End of the Affair Seattle Opera's 2005-06 season opens tonight with the West Coast premiere of Jake Heggie's The End of the Affair.
The opera, with a libretto by Heather McDonald and based on Graham Greene's novel by the same name, premiered at Houston Grand Opera in 2004. Yves Abel conducts; Mary Mills and Philip Cutlip star. Leonard Foglia directs, in his first production for the company.

The season will also feature productions of Strauss's Die Fledermaus, with Jane Eaglen and Richard Berkeley-Steele in the lead roles; Mozart's CosÐ fan tutte, in Jonathan Miller's update, which has played at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Lincoln Center Festival, with Richard Stilwell as Don Alfonso and Kimberly Barber as Despina; and a new production of Verdi's Macbeth, designed by Robert Israel and with Andrea Gruber and Gordon Hawkins starring.
